Permanent residence permit in Poland (“karta stałego pobytu”) is a document issued to a foreigner in order to legalize his permanent stay in Poland for an indefinite period. A permanent residence permit allows a foreigner to live, study and work in Poland with the same rights as Polish citizens, with the exception of participation in elections.
In the case of a positive decision of the state authorities, the foreigner get an official document – permanent residence card. The card itself is valid for 10 years. After 10 years, the foreigner is obliged to replace it with a new one.
This card allows foreigner to stay not only in Poland for 360 days a year, but also in the territory of other European Union countries (Schengen zone) for up to 90 days in every 180 days.
